Yep, Kyle he had no clue at all she was underneith him. His eyes were opened looking up at the sky, and in all honesty, he was more impressed that he was able to float as it was! He thought he was just going to sink straight to the bottom, so he was well sucking it in. That he could float! And now his eyes opened just in time to see her webbed hands wrap around his stomach, and a good thing he did see that. Otherwise he probably would have paniced.

Having gotten a deep breath taken just as he was pulled under. His arms began to move to keep himself from turning into a standing position or anything. His eyes scanning around underwater now, movements of his hand moving behind him now, feeling for where it was she was at. His hands finding her, he gave a bit of a squeeze, not one of those stop ones. But one of those where he was letting her know he was trusting her with this.

Himself, he was also surprisingly calm why all this was going on, yes he trusted she knew what it was she was doing at that moment but this was also another adventure for him, and everyone knew how he loved adventures. His eyes they just continued to glance around in that water now. his mind now wondering one thing...where was she taking him!

once she pulled him under, from behind him catherine shifted her arms and her position so that she had one arm around him in a pose that was very common to saving someone who was drowning. the easiest way to swim and carry someone along at the same time, it'd make swimming them deeper down into the lake much easier. where they were now, the water was at the very most ten feet deep. any swimming pool with a high dive had deep ends which were deeper, so surely kyle wouldn't be too nervous about the fact she was taking him to the bottom?

and she swam quickly, still rather speedy even with carrying him along with her. she was a professional athlete, not to mention water was her element, so catherine was a remarkably strong swimmer. and right now even though she wasn't competing against any other swimmers, there was a race of sorts - she was trying to get to the bottom before kyle ran out of air.

the bottom of the lake was mostly sand, with some large rocks here and there. where catherine was swimming to was a collection of rocks of various sizes. when they reached it, she sat kyle down on one of the rocks, pressing her hands down on his shoulders so he didn't go floating back up to the surface. her sienna eyes looking straight into his, she would say to him very clearly, "this will help you not need air, okay?" she mouthed the words best she could because while she could speak just fine underwater, she wasn't sure how clearly he'd be able to hear her. so she was trying to help him read her lips. as she spoke, a trail of bubbles slipped from her lips and went floating up to the surface. what he could hear of her voice sounded even sweeter and more melodic than before - the hypnotic voice of a mermaid immersed in her element!

and speaking of lips! what she said was warning kyle for what was about to come. because catherine gently put her thumb on kyle's chin, nudging his mouth open. and then, she pressed her open lips to his and exhaled. once, twice, three times. when she pulled away, kyle wouldn't be able to breathe underwater because of course that would just fill his lungs with water. but he'd find that his lungs seemed quite happy for now and didn't nag him for air at all. how long it lasted depended on the person, but usually it was about ten minutes. not only that, but when catherine took her hands off his shoulders, he'd find his body didn't have the urge to float to the surface anymore. her gift to him was a merfolk trick, one surely used to lure sailors into the dangerous depths of the sea. unlike more malevolent merfolk, catherine was of course going to take care of him and keep him safe while they were underwater!

His eyes remained upon her as she took him to the bottom, well once he was finished looking around that is. You'd have thought that he had never been underwater before the way he was looking around. But now he found himself being sat down. Watching her reading the words that her lips spoke he nodded his head just in time before she did her trick.

Finally her lips pulled off his and she let go. He was expecting to start floating up to the surface. And when that didn't happen, he simply looked around. Pointing to the ground. He didn't open his mouth or anything, he didn't know if that would have been a good thing. And though he would try just about anything! He wasn't about to try that!

The reason he had pointed to the ground, was because he was asking her if that meant that he was able to stand, even though he was standing. Hey he could be slow sometimes! But then it his him, she was right there in front of him. This was his chance, and even though it wasn't a splash, he literally pushed water towards her. Enough that she could feel the rush of that water under there hit her.

And that was when his face lit up, his face was literally beaming there underwater as he did this victorious fist pump just like he had just won a championship in something! But that wasn't the end of it, since she was standing right there. It was also his chance to catch her! So he pushed off the ground towards her, attempting to playfully tackle her and catch her. for if he did catch her, well that all depended on if she was paying attention and he was actually fast enough, or if he was about to go face first into the bed of that lake!

he was smart not to open his mouth. catherine was very used to using signals to speak underwater, so they'd be okay with him communicating like that. when he pointed at the ground she grinned and nodded. "ten minutes," she said, flashing her ten fingers at him to emphasize the point. and then a little face and she clarified, "give or take."

it was then that he tried to 'splash' her underwater. when she felt that push of water against her abdomen she stared at him. with this curiously bewildered look on her face. then it dawned on her what he was trying to do, and she started to laugh. and his victory fist pump only made her laugh harder. he was funny, and she was enjoying herself. today was turning out to be a wonderful day. she wasn't exploring every inch of the lake like she'd originally planned on, but she could do that any day alone. today someone was in the water with her and that was too priceless to pass up!

even though he didn't need air and his body was adjusting to the water like catherine's did, he'd still find he moved through the water in the same way he always would. so when he lunched to catch her, with a smooth twist and a flick of the lower half of her body he'd find catherine had slipped out of his wicked clutches! but this time she didn't swim off far away. she just swam off just out of his reach, spinning back around to face him with a cheeky smile. swishing the tip of her tail coyly back and forth. almost like she was daring him to try again!

Yep he found himself heading to straight to the lake bed, though not as fast as he expected actually it was like more of a look he's moving in slow motion! But that was besides the point, he honestly thought that he was going to get her just then and when he didn't he looked around, trying to figure out how she got away!

Back to his feet he went and he gave her that childish grin of his once more. Pointing to her, and then pointing himself as a way of saying "I'm gonna get you now!" But first thing was first...plan of attack, how was he going to get her! He already splashed her, so he already had one victory in his head. But he wanted another one! See he had a competitive side to him as well!

And then he got an idea, the greatest idea he had ever gotten! He pushed up off the lake bed once more. Not doing after her body. Nope! He was going after her tail! Hey in his mind he thought he could get it. In all honesty concidering how painfully slow he was moving at that moment...he was going to fail, and fal miserably!!!

catherine actually had to cover her hand over her mouth as she watched kyle slowly 'falling' to the sandy bed of the lake, so he wouldn't see she was still laughing. because he was sinking so slowly, catherine didn't rush forward to help him. he would be alright, at least she was hoping so! when he looked in her direction next she actually sang to him. because her singing would travel the water to him better than her voice would, she knew that. she'd known that all along. it was just that...well, it was singing, and sometimes her singing did things, and catherine was of course silly and shy.

"it takes some time to get used to." the sweet soft song would slide right into his ears like the words were meant to go nowhere else. which was true, wasn't it? hopefully he wouldn't...get all warm inside, or get that dopey smile on his face that a lot of men [including her very own husband] did when she sang. she was trying to sing it as innocently as possible. a foolish little smile as she swam a bit forward, closer to him as she sang. "it would be easier if you were like me." well obviously, catherine. her little smile became a big grin after she said that, blowing a trail of bubbles from her lips. suspended there comfortably in the water as she was, the tip of her tail lazing slowly back and forth, her shock of long red hair floating gracefully all around her...well being a mermaid looked pretty simple didn't it?

because she crept a little closer, it made it a little easier for him to make a grab for her. especially because with each swish of her tail it curled around closer. so he got so very close, nearly got it but catherine snapped her tail fins right out of his reach. not only that, but then she snapped them back forward and the left one landed with a smack on the back of his hand as catherine laughed.

but...she knew this wasn't exactly fair. which is why he'd watch her swim forward and smoothly twist around, sitting herself down on the biggest of the rocks around them just as she'd sat on the rock next to the bank before. webbed hands resting on either side of the rock, she extended her tail straight out towards him, giving the very tips of her tailfins a little wave at him. she was easily within his reach now, especially her lower tail. was catherine finally being fair, and letting him have a real chance of catching her? or was this just one of her teasing traps?

Yea she must have been having a blast seeing him slowly falling like that once again towards the bottom of the lake! But hey they were both having a blast, that was what mattered after all wasn't it! But hey he still had one more trick up his sleve. Just before he hit the ground, what did he do? He did a front flip, twisting as well so that he was now facing her and on his feet. Stopping everything he was doing for a moment because well he had even amazed himself.

Once he was finished being amazed with himself, he looked to her having heard her song and he smiled. Not that dopey smile, and no he wasn't getting all warm on the inside! He was still plotting to get her! He really needed to learn how to speak like that. A mental note made to remember to learn that as well.

Though what came next was probably a bit of a surprise! Her tailfin there, yes she was within reach of him. But what did he do? He shook his head and smiled, pointing at the rock she was on. And he swam over to that rock, sitting down next to her. Looking to her he flashed that normal smile of his. Trying to figure out really how to sign thank you. That was shown on his face showed he was thinking as well. So he did what he thought best. He reached over, placing a hand on her shoulder and smiled to her, giving her shoulder a slight squeeze. his way of saying thank you.

Letting go of her shoulder now, he swam up slightly to where she was out of his reach and he turned back around to face her. Smiling once more he pointed to her shoulder. As though he was letting her know, he caught her as well. And what did he do next! Well it was her turn to catch him. He mimicked the best her could at what her tailfin did and flicked his foot at her before taking off as fast as he could away from her. That action was his own I dare you to try to catch me action! To bad for him it was going to be awfully easy to catch him!

the look of surprise on catherine's face when he did that fancy flip forward. she positively beamed jubilation then and clapped her hands together in applause. he was certainly starting to get the hang of it! which was so exciting for her to see. it gave her ideas, so very many ideas about different things they could play in the water together. if he was willing to, of course. she wouldn't ask that now, though. later, much later. when she was brave enough.

and was that a slight pout from catherine, when he didn't try to take her tailfin? it sure looked like it! she was actually going to let him win, too. part of her had wondered if the reason he snatched for it in particular was to see what it felt like, and that she could understand. she knew it wasn't every day a person met someone who had a fishtail instead of legs...

but she did move over when he indicated the rock so that he could have some room. and when he squeezed her shoulder, she tilted her head to briefly rest her head on top of his hand, before picking her head back up again and giving him one of her shy little smiles. she watched him with curiosity as he got up off the rock. and then pursed her lips at him in a smirk when he indicated her shoulder. finally, she stuck her tongue out at him to let him know just what she thought about his trickery!

though, she had to admit that the way he flicked his foot at her was very funny. and catherine even let him get a bit of a head start before she hopped up off the rock, using smooth undulating motions to glide her body with quick ease through the water. it really didn't take the mermaid long to catch up to him, she did have the unfair advantage after all! though when she caught up to kyle she slipped her arm around him similar to how she had before when she pulled him under. her other arm reaching around so he could see it, her hand with its webbed fingers gave a clear point upwards.

it was time for her to take him back to the surface. he'd feel like he was running out of air soon. a few swift kicks of her tail and they were headed up, up and up. they'd break the surface of the lake in no time!

And here, he thought he was gonna get away from her! That darn bad timing of his kicked in! So he was on his way up to the surface now. Having seen her motion he nodded his head. Knowing it was time to go up there now. Just as they were nearing the surface was when he finally began to feel like he was starting to run out of air.

Finally reaching the surface, he began to get his air back in him. Deep breaths were taken as he used his legs to keep him there up at the surface. His eye's looking the wrong way of course for where she had gone. Finally finding her he took another couple deep breaths and then what came next was probably a surprise but...

He hugged her! He gave her a huge hug and let go, smiling.

"That was fun! Thank you hun. Now if only I could swim faster and keep up with you!"

He laughed softly at that one and went underwater again for a moment coming back up again. Hey he liked being underwater what could he say! It was then, once he came up from under that water that he offered her that childish grin and...splashed her!

"I gotcha!"

He laughed once more, as he watched her. That smile on his face never going away!

see, catherine took care of him! up to the surface just in time. and as he filled his air with wonderful air again, catherine ducked briefly back under the surface of the water to brush all her hair back. and when she popped up, she was hugged! looking very surprised, her light green cheeks blushing with that peachy pink color as she slipped her cool arms around him and returned the embrace. her lips parted to answer him, but then he broke the embrace and ducked underwater.

so she waited until he got back up. which was nice of him really, because by the time he resurfaced her blush had gone, though she still had that trademark shy and sheepish look about her. "i had fun too, kyle, it was nice to play with someone in the water," or underwater more precisely. and then, the thing she always offered to people, "if you're interested in swimming faster i could help you, i'm a certified instructor..." a slight grimace. "you know, for normal swimming, with legs..." by the end of that tangled up sentence she was starting to flush again...

good timing for a splash. with a silly little laugh catherine splashed him back, this time using her hands to do it instead of her lower half, which was under the water as she was 'standing' upright at the moment. and then, something occurred to her. "kyle, you're wearing your clothes aren't you? we're going to have to dry you off, i don't want you getting sick it's still really cold in here for a person to be swimming, isn't it?" she added the 'isn't it' because she didn't feel the water temperature like a normal person did these days.

with a smooth flick of her lower half, she started skimming across the water to the bank. normally she'd stay in the water all day with someone who was willing, but..she didn't want him catching a cold!

Oh she splashed him back! Ohhhhh she wanted to play that game. He would play! Win, dunno about that but he would play! Laughing he looked at her after she splashed him and got this almost evil grin on his face. He had a plan now, one that quickly he came up with, which meant it was destined to fail! But don't tell Kyle that, in his mind he didn't realize that. So under the water he went, swimming around her in a circle now, where was he going to come up....

Directly in front of her, trying to come up and splash at the same time to get her as wet as possible. Well except for one problem, all that water he went to splash her with went straight up into the air, completely missing her. And Kyle he just stopped looking at Catherine. Not believing that it didn't work, he thought for sure it was going to work. But it didn't and what was the thing that showed him it didn't work? Well when that water all came down, on top of him!

So now he went ahead following her back to the shore now, thinking about what she had said. Once they reached the shore he litterally sat down in the water. He didn't wanna get out just yet.

"You could teach me to swim faster? I'd really appriciate that Catherine, but but but.."

There was that little boyish smile of his now as he pointed to her and the water around her.

"I wanna be able to swim like that sometime. So I can keep up with you. It would be fun!"

He laughed once more, himself staying there in the water. Yea he just basically told her he wanted to have his own tailfin sometime to swim with her, with! But soon after there was a shake of his head. When she started talking about the cold and all.

"I'll be fine I promise. But you do have a point I should probably get outta here and dry off, don't wanna get the boys sick."

He nodded his head once more and then thought about it for a moment. When he realized what two pieces of clothing he did have on.

"Well all I have on clothes wise is my pants and well....my boxers.."

catherine didn't get far before she nearly bumped into underwater kyle swimming in front of her, which made her swish her tail to a stop as she looked down with both curiosity and bewilderment. what was he up to down there? she soon found out, and when kyle's big plan didn't go so well she started to laugh, covering her mouth as she tried to be polite and hide her snickers. she reached out and gave him a soft commiserating pat on the shoulder, before ducking back down to start gliding her way towards the bank again.

she had just reached the rock she was sitting on before, and she perched upon it right when kyle mentioned he wanted to swim 'like that' sometime. when she caught his point and gesture, boy did catherine flush. her reaction went beyond her cheeks, too, as she shyly bit her lower lip and her hand came out to touch against one of her cheeks. not to mention her tailfin's nervous swish, and the fact that she was nearly tongue-tied. "you...want to...really? because...well because tick he has a machine that can...well, for a little while. if you....you really?" catherine's sentence messily ended with the same question it began with, said in a tone of baffled surprise. no one had ever wanted to try being like her before, besides the doctor of course who had helped her accept and explore what she was in the first place.

and then, to the last thing kyle said catherine flashed a very big silly grin, and kyle got a rather cheeky, spunky answer. "well all i have on is a bathing top, kyle, so really if you think about it we're both half uncovered. when one wrong move on my part gets you get a flash of my backside, i'd say that you're the more appropriate one here...and honestly kyle i have seen boys with their shirts off before, i was on a swim team since i was nine-years-old before coming here..." if he was close enough, she would have elbowed him in the ribs for being so silly.

He couldn't say a single word with how red he was at that moment. If he would have tried, it would have come out all jumbled and scrambled and he basically would have been stumbling over those words of his worse then anything at all that he had ever said. So what did he do to cool himself down, well yea right in front of her, he went back into the water and sunk under it until just his eyes and forehead was above the surface. He just watched her for those what ened up being a couple minutes really before he lifted his head up, his face having cooled down and now.

"He has a machine that can make me like you. So you mean I can swim fast like you?"

He smiled again thinking about that for a moment. He could actually swim as fast as her! It was too good to be true, it really was! So there was a nod of his head now.

"So, so he can make me swim just as fast as you. Well heck, when can we do that!"

Yes he had already completely forgot why he had been bluching that bad in the first place. Sometimes you had to wonder if he really did have the attention span of a two year old! His mind here, his mind there. his mind suddenly finding what was the last thing that she had said, and once again he slinked slowly down into the water.

We...you...you are?"

He blinked a couple times before he stood up once more. He did notice what had happened. He had no clue.

"Well...I guess you do have a point we are both half naked....that's cool"

He shrugged his shoulders a bit, surprisingly it actually didn't bother him, that, that was the case. But when he would look down he would be in for a surprise, for his pants, they were no longer there, instead all that remained were his boxers....his black scooby doo boxers!

ohhh, kyle. of all the ways to ask her, he had to involve the phrase 'fast as'. and maybe he could get away with it once, but when he said it twice? the mermaid who was known as 'rocket' by her swim teammates just had to correct him, she just had to. her competitive nature just couldn't let it go. "well. not...fast as...." look at her hesitating trying to say that as sweetly and politely as possible. which probably meant that catherine's voice was the closest to lovely mermaid song that drove sailors wild that it has been yet. and there was even a little flush on her cheeks, as catherine the mannered was trying to fight catherine the ego.

and she was still trying! and getting tangled up every couple of words as every time she tried to finish her sentence in her head it sounded very much like bragging, and she didn't want to brag at all! "i mean, what i mean to say is that...well that's what i am, you know, a professional swimmer, competitive racing? and i do still train even though i haven't competed since..." that was a whole other story. catherine shook her head, her flush deeper as she blurted out finally, "the machine can change you and make you a merman for a little while yes. yes yes it can. i'll ask the doctor about it, if we can use it soon." there. whew. she literally looked relieved as she finally found a way out of that which didn't involve her insisting that she was the best and brightest when it came to swimming.

a little self-conscious embarrassed little cough, at the end of that twisty turny mess of talking she'd just done. by the end of her babble she was toying with the tips of her hair and curling it around her fingers, which was something she did sometimes when she was nervous. and then, when kyle looked down so did she, and that's when she noticed. "oh kyle..." what a big silly foolish grin. "i'll go find them..." she didn't think she had to clarify what exactly she had to go find. because if he didn't know his pants were missing...well how could he not know that!

catherine hopped off her rock and ducked smoothly under the water. swimming past him, he would feel a thwack on the back of his legs by those devious tailfins of hers! the good thing was that they had only spent a little time underwater, and they'd done it in a concentrated area, and it wasn't like this lake had a major current. the pants weren't even all the way at the bottom, they were kind of floating a few feet under the water as if they were undecided if they wanted to sink or swim. she grabbed them up in her hand and headed back up to the surface.

popping up just behind kyle with a splash, she plunked the sopping wet pants on his head. "i hope you don't tell me that your keys are gone next, because if i have to be a treasure hunter i'll have to charge you a fee..." which, knowing her mermaid tendencies would involve keeping the part of the treasure. she beamed merrily at him as she swam back to the shore. this time, instead of sitting on the rock she hoisted herself up onto the bank with a nice smooth twist motion. yes that meant him seeing her backside for a moment, but it was a second at the most! besides. it had some lovely scaled patches on it, a reminder that she really couldn't help that it was out in the buff. it was just part of her form when she was this way.

"if you want i can dry them off for you...and i think i have an extra towel i usually carry on in here for the baby..." catherine said that as she dug her hands into her beach bag and pulled out the first towel. that was spread over her lap, and there was a reason for that. and it wasn't that she needed it to dry off, because kyle might notice that all of her - even her hair! - was completely dry now. besides the very tip of her tail and her tailfins, which were still swishing in the water below much like he'd stuck his feet in the water earlier.

Okay so he listened to what she was saying about not being as fast as her and he nodded his head. See because Kyle, he was like one of the smartest people alive. which was also some of the biggest load of crap, also unless you considered someone who had the attention span of a two year half the time, one of the smartest people in the world then yes! Kyle was very extremely smart!

But back to the point at hand. What she had said. He nodded his head once more and made his way back into the water, stopping next to her. His eyes going back to her for a moment.

"Well of course I didn't mean as fast as you, there's no way I could be as fast as you. Well maybe faster to crash into something, but faster then you at swimming, oh heck no!"

He smiled to her once more and reached down a hand into that water and splashed her once more. And then all of the sudden he just kinda stopped, what she had blurted out finally registered in his head. And it basically made his face light up.

"Seriously! So...so...I can be a mermaid!"

a little shriek from catherine when he started splashing her as she tried to shield herself from the bits of water. "hey hey not fair i'm trying to be dry!" it was why she'd shifted back to her land legs, after all, and sure enough she was totally dry!

when he stopped splashing her, she took the opportunity to grab her bathing suit bottoms. with the towel covering over anything that shouldn't be seen, catherine expertly shimmed the bathing bottoms on in no time at all. in fact it was just in time to slowly look up at kyle with a look of absolute shock on her face. because catherine was a really terrible literalist - she really thought people always meant exactly what they said. and she knew what the resequencer was capable of, it could change a person to any other humanoid form by altering their dna temporarily. so what kyle asked, it was possible. it was that he'd ask to be a mermaid that shocked the heck out of her!

her eyes slightly wide, she said with polite bewilderment. "you...you want to be a mermaid, really? well i suppose that's...i mean i suppose it would be interesting to see what being the opposite gender is like, you're very brave really, don't you think that it might be...well to be both a different gender and a different species, i mean that's an awful lot to get used to all at once isn't it?"

as she moved her towel, laying it in the grass to dry, she added hastily. "i mean, the doctor can do it, his resequencer i mean could do it, if you wanted to. i'm just...very surprised you wanted to, but then again you are very curious so i shouldn't be surprised should i" a big silly grin was flashed at him. "i don't know if i'd be brave enough to. try being a man, i mean." yup, she really took him literally when he said he wanted to be a mermaid!

As she spoke, he watched her, talking about him being a mermaid and his head tilted to the side a bit, his eyes just blinking. He didn't say a single word until she had finished speaking and he then shook his head for a moment as he made his way out of the water, still carrying his pants so there he was in his boxers, and honestly now it didn't bother him much concidering when he knew he wasn't getting any visitor's or anything that day and him and the boys decided that they were going to be lazy that day, half the time he would end up not changing and sitting in his boxers the whole time, so this was normal for him! So once he was finally out of the water and onto the grass, he sat down, looking to her now.

"Oh no, no hun, I didn't mean like being turned into a female, yea maybe that would have it's advantages..."

Oh yes his mind did wander there for a few moments, but then again was that, that much of a surprise! Anyways back to reality his mind snapped, for a few moments at least.

"I meant you know, getting the whole tailfin thingie and stuff cept like a guy tailfin thingie, and yea."

He nodded his head once more as he looked out to the lake now.

"Then, then maybe I could somewhat keep up with you out there! And and you would be proud of me cause I was able to somewhat keep up with you out there and and, we need to do that again. It was fun out there swimming with you. Yes lets do it again sometime! You can like teach me how to be an almost as fast swimmer as you are, and and maybe even teach me how to dive!"

He turned his head back to her so she could see his face, and when she would see his face, oh how that face was beaming so proudly, it was beaming!
