It appears that she's terribly lost...
Nephalei was lost.
No, that's not it. She was more than lost. She was utterly disoriented. Not only did she not have the slightest idea where she was, she also couldn't seem to recall how she had gotten here. She couldn't even recall what the last thing she recalled was.
Needless to say, she also had quite a headache.
She was a centaur and felt sorely out of place, not seeing any others around her - this obviously meant that she was not where she was supposed to be. Where she was from, she hardly ever saw two-legged creatures (though those she had met were quite friendly, thankfully enough). She herself was not too much taller than a human, being small for a centaur. Her horse half was fine-boned and sleek, and a dusty, not-quite-white color. At her human half, it darkened into a deep mocha color, and her hair (long and curly) and tail were black with a golden glint. She wore elegant dress that covered her arms and human torso, and draped partially over her horse half; pieces of it had gotton torn off at the ends sometime during her blank state.
She reached for her purse, but found that it was gone. Stolen, probably, she thought, tightening her mouth in disappointment. In her purse was her communication device. She doubted it would work here, but it would've been worth a try.
...So what now? she asked herself, but could come up with no real answer. She supposed she should ask for help. It was the natural thing to do, she supposed, but that didn't stop her from feeling awkward as she said, to no one in particular, "Excuse me? I seem to be a bit lost, could someone tell me where I am?"
OOC: Acceptable post, I hope. =)

Re: It appears that she's terribly lost...
"You would think, that with all the other strange things in this place that someone would have heard of a bus!" Vesta had taken the day to wander into town. She left her tutu on her bed at the Inn. It was hot anyway and she didn't need anything else for people to stare at.
Currently, after asking people at a brothel, a playhouse, and a tavern, she was sitting on the side of the road talking to a squirrel. He wasn't talking back, but she had bribed him to stay long enough for her to rant to by sharing some sunflower seeds with it.
"Wouldn't believe the things I've seen. I saw a guy with gills on his face like a fish." Spitting an empty shell of the side, she picked a broken one off from between her teeth. Told her mom that training her to be a proper lady was a wast of her time. "Or the kids with lion tails coming out of their rears. At least you seem to be a proper squirrel and all. Not holding out on me are you? Pretending that you can't talk when you really can?"
While she was sitting and having a one-way conversation with the squirrel, Vesta noticed someone who looked about as lost as she did. Half horse, half human. What were they called again? Centaurs, right. Of course. Who says reading Harry Potter never taught anyone anything? She heard the question too.
"Sorry fella. Seems like our lunch date is over." wrapping up her bag of seeds she approached the centaur, hand coming up in a arched wave.
"Hey." that was always a good way to start a conversation. "Odd to me that you don't know where you are, but what the heck right? Name's Vesta Voui and from what I understand this place is called Rhydin." Right hand was extended.

OCC: Sorry for how long this took! My muse is rather rusty. ^^ But I'll get back into the swing of things soon enough!

For a time, it seemed as if no one would answer her. No one so much as paid Nephalei a glance; they all just shuffled about their business and completely ignored her.
Perhaps I've turned invisible, too, she thought, smiling ever so slightly to herself. She found it hard not the see the humor in her situation, despite or perhaps because how downright odd it was.
It was then that she heard the voice, and turned to see a strangely-dressed, strangely-accented girl approaching her.
"Hey," the girl said. "Odd to me that you don't know where you are, but what the heck right? Name's Vesta Voui and from what I understand this place is called Rhydin."
Vesta Voui was a very strange lookinghuman. Her clothes were...unusual. And she talked in a way that seemed a bit foreign though Nephalei supposed that she should be grateful that she understood the language at all. If she were stuck in this strange place and couldn't communicate... well, then she would be in trouble.
Rhydin, hm? The name didn't sound familiar, and it didn't have the same sound to it as most cities she knew. It, too, sounded foreign, though in a way different than Vesta's accent. I've never heard of it before. It can't be close to where I should be... Her voice trailed off and she suddenly noticed Vesta's outstretched hand. It looked rather awkward was she asking for money, just for that information?
Um... I don't have anything, apologies. But, truly, you can't expect money for that.
She felt a bit bad for saying so. Maybe Vesta Voui was very poor and just needed money. That would probably explain her appearance. If that was the case, she couldn't be blamed, now, could she? Nephalei herself had little experience with being poor, so to speak, but had heard that it's a rather unpleasant state to be in.

Re: It appears that she's terribly lost...
Its no problem!
Maybe centaurs didn't shake hands? Or maybe no one shook hands here at all? That couldn't be the case for she thought she had seen a person or two doing. In any case the way she went about trying to start a handshake was taken as wanting money. She could have used some money.
"Money for what? Telling you where you are? Ha. No." Guess the handshake wasn't going to be taken. Vesta simply pulled it back. no need in looking odd with a hand held out and not doing anything.
Admittedly she might have looked odd with the purple and black leggings and the skull and crossbones t-shirt - not to mention her multi-colored hair. She folded her hands behind her head.
"I was over, talking to the squirrel," motioning with her elbow to the area she had been sitting, "and I heard your question. You look as lost and confused as I was when I got here a few days back. I came on the bus. Wouldn't happen to know when the next one's coming do you?"
Hey it never hurt to ask.

Re: It appears that she's terribly lost...
Bus? She knew what buses were. Human things, not used by centaurs, but at least it was something familiar. Maybe she had simply wandered into human territory - altough this place seemed strange even for that explanation.
"No," she said, shaking her head slightly. "I don't know when the buses run, but best luck in finding one. Um... an inn...hmm.."
That last phrase was more to herself than Vesta. For a moment she paused and thought, biting her fingernails absentmindedly. She knew what the "correct" thing to do would be: do whatever she could to get back home and back to her responsibilities. And she was a bit scared, she had to admit, at the strangeness of all this. Yet, there was this little ball of excitement at the pit of her stomach; there was a sense of unpredictability in the air. It was exhilerating, while her life at home was just boring.
Well, why not stay for a bit? Poke around? See what's what?
She blinked, then smiled a pleasant little smile at Vesta. "Where is that inn, again?"
In her head, she made up the excuse: Well, everyone always SAYS it's good to learn about other places and peoples. It was an educational experience.

"Where is that inn, again?"
That's two, two questions that she was able to answer! Hey, that wasn't bad. If the questions kept going like this, she'd be on a roll.
A turn on her heels and she started walking backwards, past the centaur, leaning her head backwards. "It's up this way, past all the loud hub-bub of the market place. I got a room their and the people I've seen are nice enough. Bit strange, but nice."
To bad she didn't know when the bus was coming. Seemed to her that she was going to be here for awhile. Vesta was assuming that the centaur was following. If she were her she'd be following. Nothing else to do so why not?
"So I came on the bus, been in this place for a few days I guess. How'd you get here? And I never did get your name."

Re: It appears that she's terribly lost...
Nephalei assumed that Vesta was leading her to the inn, and followed.
"So I came on the bus, been in this place for a few days I guess. How'd you get here? And I never did get your name."
Oops. She did forget to mention her name, didn't she? Gah. Just like her. "My name is Grei Nephalei Diin-Jei." She said it in her head before she said it out loud. It sounded ridiciulous. Silly family names. Silly "ei"s. She got so sick of them after awhile; everyone's name sounded so similar in her family.
She was somewhere new now. No one cared to know her whole name anyway. With a certain sense of relief, she said, "I'm Nephalei. And I can't remember how I got here. As strange as that sounds." She paused, thinking, trying to remember. She couldn't. She was at home... then went for a walk... then... did she run into someone? No, she couldn't have...
Her memory just gradually faded. She remembered leaving, and remembered her walk less and less until she remembered nothing at all.
"I just remember leaving our house to go for a walk," she continued. "And the remember the beginning of the walk, but as it goes on it gets more and more...vague. And next, I'm just standing right back there." She turned and pointed back to where Vesta had found her.

Re: It appears that she's terribly lost...
That was a different type of name. Then again her name wasn't all that normal either. Whoever heard of someone called Vesta? Maybe in Greece.
"Nephalei." She was absolutly horrible when it came to trying to pronounce odd names, so it probably sounded like: 'Nay-paul-ee'. She tried her best to make it sound as she heard it. "I'm sorry if I said it wrong. Gimme a bit and I'm sure to say it better. Just don't have an ear for many things. Like foreign languages. Mother had me do all these things to be a proper lady. Latin, French, Spanish, eating with one of those tiny forks. Ha! What'd she'd say to see me now."
Vesta was prattling on, but she hadn't had anyone to talk to for decent conversation all day. The squirrel didn't count.
"So now that I'm here, and you're here, and we both don't seem to know much on how we got here or how to get back..." that was the shame of it all wasn't it? "Best make the best of it! I've been waiting to come face-to-face with a dragon."

Re: It appears that she's terribly lost...
OOC: Nephalei is pronounced Nef-ah-lay, so Vesta really is way off. XD I should make a note somewhere about that pronunciation...
A dragon?! There were dragons here?!
Where could she fine one!
"A dragon? Truly?" Nephalei trotted forward a bit, to catch up with Vesta. "Have you seen one? I want to. I've read about them but I never dreamed of meeting one. I hear they're very rare, if they even exist at all anymore. Oya, dragons! I never imagined!" [ooc note: "oya" is Nephalei's version of a "wow!" or a "gosh!" or whatever.]
Nephalei was distracted from her thoughts of meeting dragons by a powerful, clenching feeling in her stomach... And the rumble that went along with it.
Despite all the excitement, she noticed that she was hungry. No, not just hungry. Very hungry. Famished, even. It was true, she suddenly remembered, that she skipped breakfast that morning and hadn't eaten anything since.
"How far until the Inn?" she asked, and smiled. "I haven't eaten all day and I certainly can't go dragon hunting on an empty stomach."

"Look out! It's out of control!!"
The shout came from behind. Loud and full of excitment. Following it came curses, swears, and sounds of people jumping out of the way. For on the cobblestone street behind them, a large wagon - filled with all sorts of things ( mostly fruits and vegetables ) was barreling forward at an alarming rate. Behind that, trying to catch it, was a boy. Between 10 and 12, in button shirt and brown knickers.
Those two were in the wagons path.

Vesta was already walking backwards, however she had been watching her travel companion. The noise of the commotion from the hill had caught her attention and she hardly heard any if the last thing it two that was said to her. Relaxation was at an end.
"Move!" Vesta shouted as she tried to get the Centaurs arm and pull her off to the side. She had no intention of getting hit by the wagon and, at the moment, couldn't think of how to stop it.

Re: It appears that she's terribly lost...
It took Nephalei a moment to realize that the cart was rolling towards her - and at a rather alarming speed. She had been totally distracted by thoughts of meeting dragons and checking into inns and getting food, as well as setting off on her great adventure. And it really didn't help that she was naturally a bit absent-minded.
"Move!"
...she heard Vesta shout, and that snapped her out of her dream world. She turned her head to see a cart speeding towards her (it was far too close for her taste) and quickly pushed herself forward with her hind legs. At the last minute, though, she realized that she would be flinging herself straight into Vesta, and tried to turn.
It didn't work very well. The cart caught her right back leg, scraping up her hindquarters and doing something terribly painful near her ankle.
She tested it on the ground, and sparks of pain shot through her leg. It didn't look broken and she didn't hear a snap, but it could be... Or maybe just sprained. Hopefully just sprained.
"What a nice start to my great adventure," she mutted through clenched teeth, but smiled at the irony of it all nonethless.
OOC: Sorry for the crappy post. My muse is tired. =P

This can't be good for anyone. The only thing that might have been good was that the cart came to stop. That is, of course, if good means causing mass hysteria, nearly chopping off the leg of a bystander, crashing on it's side and having the contents spill everywhere. If this is good - then it was good.
People were pulling themselves up from the ground, picking up anything that might have fallen but, no matter what else they were doing, they looked at the culprit of the catastrophy. Seems like people weren't to keen on runaway carts.
"Im dead."
The boy ran down passed the assortment of angry people and to that cart that caused all the trouble. "Rightly sorry I is 'bout your ailing. But the cart ya see it straight got away from me."
Oh. A crowd. Some of them people didn't look to happy.

Re: It appears that she's terribly lost...
"Nah..." The pain got worse the longer she thought about it, as time went on. She gritted her teeth, craning her neck to look at the wound. Her tail swished, but she gave the boy a rather pained smile."I know it wasn't your fault."
She glanced around, noticing for the first time the people gathering around them. All looked annoyed, and some looked outright angry. Understandable, she supposed; that's quite a wreckage he caused. But it reminded her, in some disturbing way, of schoolchildren bullies ganging up on the weakling (which, many times, had been herself). She didn't like the image.
"Better get on your way, now," she said to the boy, quietly. "Before anyone here attacks you." Another smile. "Figuritively or no."
((I skipped Vesta because I figured that the post was directed at Neffie and Vesta would have nothing to say, really. If I was wrong, I'm really sorry! ))

( I'm never posting again 'cause I was skipped. Just kidding. )
What a mess this whole thing was turning out to be. The angry and injured people, Vesta found herself looking around to see if the Cops were going to show up next. Was there a form of law in this place?
People got upset over the smallest of things. It was clearly one big misunderstanding. Whoever gave that big cart to that small kid, they were the one to blame for all that happened here.
Shame of the matter was that all that food could go to waste. Not everything was out of the cart. For the moment she was caught between helping Nephalei to stand, or helping the kid. Couldn't do both at the same time now could she?
Vesta went for the kid and figured that helping to right the cart might be the thing to do for now.
"Come on folks. It's just an accident." a big one, but still an accident all the same. "Free food, right there. No harm right?"
Damn if that cart wasn't heavy. Pulling at the side trying to upright it, Vesta was giving it the ole 'heave-ho'.

Re: It appears that she's terribly lost...
The lady was right, he best be getting his way out of there right quick, but he didn't know what to do about the food. Or the cart. He couldn't rightly go trudging back home empty handed with nothing to show for it. Angry mob bout to breathe down his neck.
With all this going on you'd think he would be doing more than simply standing there, looking back and forth between the cart the girl was trying to right, and the centaur. It was a centaur right? He had heard of them, even thought that he had seen one from a distance before, but never actually up close before. And he was a kid, you'd expect him to stare.
"Right. Right. Here. I ain't mean nothing." The boy picked up a couple of the fruits that fell off. Oranges, apples, the things that he could carry in his arms, and tried to give them to the centaur.
Hopefully she got some for after he pushed the goods into her hands the boy was off and running away from the whole scene. "Thanks for stalling!"

Re: It appears that she's terribly lost...
Nephalei didn't even try to hold onto the fruits. Her mind was in other places. The pain in her ankle was steadily increasing, and the cut on her hindquarters was beginning to bleed more heavily. As a child, she had never really done "dangerous" things. She had never really gotten hurt, never really experienced any kind of pain (though she had plenty of experience in taking care of others'). She wasn't particularly fond of the experience.
She just needed to rest. Get off her feet for a bit. Patch herself up.
Right. She jerked her mind into clarity. Right. That's all she needed.
"Um..." She looked at Vesta and said in a strained voice, "I think I can get to the inn from here. You help the kid." He was long gone, but she wouldn't be surprised if someone went after him. There were some angry people there. The last thing she wanted was for the boy to get into trouble over something that wasn't his fault. She glanced at the mess surrounding her. Ugh. It was probably more her fault than the boy's. "I'd help clean this all up if I could but... well, y'know."

Well hell. This was just a whole shamble wasn't it? The kid ran off, the people still didn't look too happy, and her traveling companion was fading.
"Hey! Give the kid a break. He's only a kid and this thing weighs a ton!" she could hardly budge it. That might have more to do with how the fallen cart was positioned then anything else. In a place that had magic and who knows what else, why wasn't the cart made light? Or flying?
Giving that cart a final shove - not that it did any good - she abandoned it for Naphalei. "I think we should get out of here too. Lean on me. I'll help you."

Re: It appears that she's terribly lost...
"Thanks..." Nephalei leaned on Vesta, but was careful not to put her full weight on her. She did, after all, weigh just a tad bit more than a human did. That bit of support still made walking much easier, though. She didn't need to put much weight on her injured foot, cutting down the pain immensely. "I very much appreciate this," she told Vesta, and meant it. It would have been difficult to say the least to do this on her own.

(Ha! sure, let's toss our lot into the madness going on there. See if we can do this right....I'll post this here and in the checking out board.. somewhere. )
Vesta wasn't a superwoman and she honestly didn't have the slightest clue as to how much weight she could lift. Average amount. Too bad she didn't gain something extra when she arrived in this world.
Now she was helping Nephalei to walk. "Say nothing of it. Like I said, it's not too far. And I'd rather be away from this mod." Less they start implication them in the whole mess. The whole 'wrong place, wrong time' thing.
As they were getting closer - day passing onward - she saw a couple carriages outside the Inn.
"Now those were not there when I left this morning."
