Lifting the Weight

Lifting the Weight
He stayed in his cold ass room a while. Long enough that he was pretty sure Sammy wasn't watching his door waiting for him to come out. He stripped down to his wife beater and put on shorts he could swim in. Time to find that gym De'Ryanna said was here. Too bad he didn't stick around in the hall earlier to hear the answer to Sammy's question about a map. He'd have to just walk until he found the place or a person to ask.
There were only so many directions to go in so he found it eventually. Without running into anyone either so that was good. He didn't bother with the locker room since he was already changed. He'd been in a lot of hotels that had basement gyms so he had an idea in mind about what this place would look like. So he was in for a shocker. "Goddamn this place's huge." His voice bounced off the walls. It was empty when he went in. He saw where the pool was but he'd do some weights first.
Lifting weights with bare feet wasn't a smart idea. But who said Toby was smart, right? He figured if he dropped a weight on his foot he deserved it for letting his concentration slip. Probably why he had ugly ass feet. He'd dropped a couple weights in his day and it made for some broken bones.
He always started with a bench press. Kinda hard to drop weights on your feet doing that. He never used a spotter though doing the bench press so he was still being careless. Just chalk it up to the family habit. Careless Kennedys that was them and it went way back. Toby loaded the weights up until he had himself a challenge. Once he got a few reps in to loosen himself up he added the mantra.
Weird, right? Guy talking to himself while he was bench pressing. But that was Tody for you. Always meditating in some way if he wasn't drinking or smoking. And all of those things he did to either try to fix himself or forget himself. Right now he was looking to fix himself. A word paired up with each up or down move he made that's how he figured how many reps to a set. Especially with the long ass mantra he was using today. "Om Bhur Om Bhuvaha Om Swaha. Om Maha Om Janaha Om Tapaha Om Satyam. Om Tat Savitur Varenyam. Bhargo Devasya Dhimahi. Dhiyo Yonaha Prachodayat"
There was one set. He reset the bar and took the necessary break. At least he was doing that part of the lifting right.
